Open source is a product decision.

Readable code, simple installation and provider choice should reinforce each other.

Start small on purpose

The personal desktop profile runs a local Bun backend with SQLite. It does not require PostgreSQL, Redis, a queue worker or an account. Cloud deployments add those operational components where they are useful.

Keep one set of rules

A modular backend shares application rules across local and cloud profiles. Infrastructure adapters handle storage and providers. This keeps the simple installation useful without pretending that a shared hosted service has the same operating needs.

Make changes reviewable

Focused modules, explicit contracts and tests make it easier to understand a migration. Source packages include the code and documentation; release notices distinguish tested behaviour from platform or distribution limitations.
